We are constantly talking about and strategizing on our future as a family. We, the Pierre’s, are planners. As much as possible. We often talk about how we are going to prepare for this, save up for that, attend this event, go out of town then, but often times, God has a totally different agenda!
I am so thankful that God, my husband and I have a special relationship where we find the vision for our family. Because of this, I can have peace with wherever our path goes. This is not to say that it’s always clear what decision we are to make, or clear how we will get out of whatever issue comes up, or that it is going my way! I am just comfortable knowing that no matter what awaits us, God will protect and provide as he always has.
In the first year of our marriage we experienced many ups and downs. These stemmed internally and externally, many of the issues were beyond our control, dealing with sick family members, family drama, learning how to manage our finances together, repairs on the house, etc. Through this we figured out a way to start creating a future for ourselves, but preparing as much as possible for plans B, C, and sometimes D.
Our current plan to prepare for our future requires us to sit down and talk through all the major areas in our lives, together and individually. Then we match up our goals and what steps are needed to reach them. Lastly, we put together a realistic timeline for when we’d like to see that goal accomplished. Sometimes, this is where reality steps in. I am often the one who wants things done immediately! This is not always wise and JP reminds me of this when I need to hear it. We discuss the pros and cons of our decision, dreams, and plans and decide if it is something we want to do or have to do.
Life can get beyond your ability to control, so this process doesn’t always work. To create a better future for our family we have to keep God at the head of the process. We don’t know how to handle every trial or every triumph, but He does and He knows what’s coming next. The best way to prepare for that, is to let Him handle it and take full control.
